Passions and Illusions

Passions and illusions identify central aspects of the texts chosen for the Inda 2024 season. Phaedra’s love and Ajax’s honour and glory are enthralling and all-consuming passions. The Miles’ are illusions: vain and boastful, always ridiculous, but forced by his own imagined omnipotence to a punishing end, verging on the tragic. Phaedra, the sudden and fatal falling in love; Ajax, the most heroic hero of all Greek tragedy; Miles, who contains within himself millennia of Falstaff-like boasters, are protagonists who touch deep chords in all of us and attract us like true stage magnets.
